Graduate Research Assistant
Work with the Center for Environmental Building Design includes project management of a Energy and Carbon Footprint assessment of the George Nakashima Woodworker complex in New Hope, PA. The project team is using digital modeling and physical data recording to paint a clear picture of fuel and energy usage on the woodworking campus. This multi-phase project involves mapping the building's energy use to its local climate and from their providing a report and series of recommendations towards a Strategic Energy and Sustainability Plan for the facility. CEBD About: (from https://www.design.upenn.edu/cebd/about)The Center for Environmental Building & Design* is a faculty research unit at the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design dedicated to improving the environmental future of contemporary buildings and cities. We must look beyond building efficiency standards and net-zero formulations to design truly resilient buildings and cities. Over the coming century we must use the knowledge, technologies, and expectations of the twenty-first- century metropolis to return to the renewable resource base of pre-industrial economies. The challenges of environmental design occur at multiple, interacting scales and can only be approached systemically, so the CEBD works in interdisciplinary teams on projects at a range of scales.
Design Fellow
In collaboration with a team at the University of Pennsylvania, our group is exploring a community design for a Lenape Tribal community in Northern New Jersey. The project uses architecture and design to address environmental justice, food sovereignty, and cultural restoration. Currently in the scoping and programming phase, our team is researching a high-performance, prototype community that can serve not only as a model for other tribal communities but for a form of living in sync with the earth and our climate. What is PennPraxis? (from https://www.design.upenn.edu/pennpraxis/home )PennPraxis supports design action and thought leadership to advance inclusion, innovation, and impact in communities that design doesn't typically serve. PennPraxis does projects that demonstrate the power of interdisciplinary design, art, planning, and heritage preservation to respond to the major challenges of the built and natural environments, and the communities that inhabit them. Our projects strengthen the University of Pennsylvania's Weitzman School of Design as a school focused on high social impact design. We create opportunities "beyond the market" to help our students develop agency in the world, and we cultivate diversity among the next generation of leaders.

Due to the size and complexity, the project was fast-tracked and deliverables were released in phases over a several year period.
