I graduated from Manchester University in 1985 with a Maths Degree, working initially as an actuarial trainee, then as a pension consultant/IFA.In August 1993, I set up a Financial Services Department for a 200-year-old firm of regional solicitors, which I ran until January 1999. During this time, I started to advise on pensions and divorce, as well as long-term care planning. I was one of the first IFAs to obtain Law Society authorisation as a qualified person and was the first North-West based IFA authorised in Corporate Pensions. I obtained the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate in January 1995. In 1996, I passed the CII Pensions exam (G60), which later became compulsory for advising on pension transfers. I was admitted as an Associate of SOFA in April 1999. In February 1999, I set up Professionally Connected Financial Planning, a partnership of fee-based independent financial advisers.In October 2001, I passed the CII Retirement Options (K10) exam. I achieved the highest mark of any candidate during the 2001/2 academic year. The examination covered the full spectrum of advice on pension options at retirement for employees, business owners and the self-employed. I was awarded the prestigious Chartered Insurance Institute/Scottish Equitable K10 Retirement Options Merit Award for 2002.In November 2005, I became an accredited adviser for the Universities Superannuation Scheme. In September 2007, I was awarded Chartered Financial Planner status by the CII. PCFP were one of the first 100 firms awarded Corporate Chartered Financial Planner status by the CII. In July 2008, I became sole owner of PCFP.In 2016, I completed the CII Later-Life Orientation Programme and passed the CII R08 Pensions Update course.From 2 October 2017, my business is now known as PCFP Ltd; on 24 October, I moved from Harwood to Egerton.On 21 April 2021 I moved to Astute Private Wealth as an employed adviser, transferring my clients over to Astute.
