In six years as CEO/CFO of Albanwise Wallace Estates Group, I transformed an agriculture and property asset holding business into a UK corporate investment vehicle with gross assets of over £1bn and over £600m of debt (in the form of loan notes and bank finance). Within that framework I oversaw the development of six individual business units, three of which (in the insurance, renewable energy and environmental services sectors) were created from scratch. The Group also owned the third largest portfolio of residential ground rents in the UK (the Wallace Partnership Group) and I was publicly active in the media and in engaging with Government in the ongoing debates around leasehold reform and building safety as a director of the Residential Freehold Association, a trade body representing the UK’s largest professional freeholders.In the ten years prior to this as Finance Director of the Wallace Partnership Group I was involved in three separate refinancing exercises, the sale of the business in 2017 and the acquisition of another ground rent investment group with a gross value of £100m. I also managed the design and implementation of the Group’s market-leading bespoke IT systems, which enabled turnover to double without impacting the cost base.I trained as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in London. While there I worked largely with property and construction companies although I also led the financial review team working at the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva.On leaving in 1997 I held various finance roles working in property investment and management companies and in software development companies prior to joining Wallace. I also qualified as an Associate Member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.
