The group was first organized last July 2016 under the baton of John Michael Lauron.“Baganihan” is a Hiligaynon word which means “hero.” Its members, coming from all walks of life – young professionals, teachers, students, mathematicians, pastor, medical technologist and businessmen - are everyday heroes of the community who make a difference in the world by sharing and creating wonderful opportunities through music.THE BAGANIHAN SINGERS believe that not all acts of heroism need to be defined as brave or courageous. There are many who, in a variety of ways, have taken up causes in their daily lives. Their efforts show how simply getting involved can open doors to bigger opportunities. It is what inspires us about people and makes us hold them up as examples of greatness. This being said, THE BAGANIHAN SINGERS look up to people who make a difference to everyone’s lives while, at the same time, overcoming personal struggles and hardship to achieve that goal - admiring their bravery and dedication and aspiring to be as courageous and focused, like all Baganihans of the past and the present, to achieve what we were and are set out to do through music and choral singing. Apart from choral training and due to lack of choral pieces, I as well arrange music. It has been my goal to make sure that students build confidence and develop social skills thus the organization of regular performances. With the founding of the Jumeirah Music Centre Children’s Choir in 2004 as a complimentary extra-musical training for JMC students, it has envisioned a performing group trained primarily with techniques focusing on vocal placement, harmony, choreography and stage performance. The choir had its debut at Dubai Ladies Club on May 2005, followed by a charity concert at the University of Sharjah on the same year. Since then, JMC Children’s Choir has been performing in several events within Dubai and Sharjah. With most of its original members leaving Dubai for further studies in their home countries, training for JMC Children’s Choir becomes seasonal since 2008. The Choir season starts on the first term of each school year (September to December) in preparation for Christmas carol singing.Recently, following a successful week-long concert last December 2011 and going beyond the tradition, I have trained the choir to perform alongside with our students on our year-end concert which was held last June 2012. The choir received a warm reception both from the students, parents and the local art scene. Show less
