Iron Baron

Based in Iron Baron, my current role is as a process engineer in the operations group. This role had a number of responsibilities including planning day to day manufacturing for the Crusher, IPF and OBP that meet the Sales and Operating Plan targets, metallurgical accounting, develop good working relationships with our clients (Blast Furnace) and our suppliers (Mining), provision of technical advice to the plant technicians and developing relationships with our main client (Blast Furnace).

Based in the Analysis and Improvement group, this role was the Readiness To Operate (RTO) for the Pellet Plant Cooler Replacement Project. The project build was completed in September 2019. This role required a collaborating with a number of specialist groups and contractors to ensure that the RTO process was completed to a high standard.

I joined the team at Water Treatment Services as a Water Treatment Specialist and worked in this newly created position to develop solutions. In this role, I have worked with clients to develop effective and sustainable water treatment solutions for customers in various fields of industry including Energy, Mining and Manufacturing.The highlight of this role was to work abroad and commission and manage my portfolio in Mongolia. Other highlights was working across the many teams in WTS giving assistance where required up and down the East Coast.

Frankston

This was a business my then wife had started. It was specialty store bringing the flavours of Asia to our seaside City of Frankston. Our products came from a range of Asian Countries such as Indonesia, India, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.I worked in this role part time and carry out the role as Company Secretary. I also assist my partner in day to day operations of the business in areas such as online marketing, SEO, IT support as well as working in frontline sales.

I worked with prospective clients in various industries to help them solve their problems or optimise their processes. My expertise got me involved with Mining, Paint, Metal Finishing, Water Treatment, Food and Beverage as well as the Swimming Pool Industries.One of my achievements in this role was working with a client in South Australia to eliminate dust generation during crushing and screening operations at one of their sites. The success of the trials saw a solution roll out to their other sites. The treatment program used was not only effective, but is relatively simple in application and cost effective. The latter being achieved through the development of a new concentrated product in the Buckman range.

South Middleback Ranges

In this role I provided technical advice for operations of the Pumping and Storage area of the Arrium Concentrator Plant located in the South Middleback Ranges. This plant incorporated many types of equipment including thickeners/clarifiers, auto-samplers and major pipelines (62 km in length transporting fifteen thousand tonne a day of slurry and water combined).One of my tasks was also to provide advice to Capital and Commission Teams within Arrium. Provision of advice often pertained to water related operational security, commissioning equipment and optimising plant operating parameters for increased output.One of my achievements in this role was to develop and implement a Pipeline Inspection Gauge (PIG) program that has been continued with increasing success long after my departure. Throughput has been increased dramatically restoring the pipeline capacity to near new conditions.

At Nalco, my final role was to lead, manage and coordinate all activities conducted by Nalco in South Australia north of Port Pirie. All business in this region was approx. $6.5m for 2010.This included duties such as provision of technical solutions relating to water projects related to the OneSteel organization, leading the team in day to day operations, coordination of discrete Nalco projects, delivery of project briefs both written and oral to all levels of OneSteel and Nalco.One of my personal successes was to have proactively realigned the local team to accommodate strictures imposed from the GFC that saw a reduction of staff by 40% whilst maintaining adequate levels of service and increasing profitability.I also proactively developed systems to deliver real savings to our customer base assessed by yearly KPIs. Required savings target were upwards of 5% of total income generated from customer base.

In this role, I developed the account manager's position from initial project engineering role to incorporating responsibility for project engineering, HR, sales and customer liaison role during a period of transition by the company.The most rewarding aspect of the job was generating initiatives within the local Nalco organization by mentoring and assisting members of the local team to improve delivery of services, increase reliability of equipment, improve delivery of presentations to all levels of our clients at managerial and operational staff.

I served most of my time as reservist in many postings and positions within Land, Logistics and Training command units.Some of my full time roles within the Army were as a logistics officer supporting various deployments of Australian Forces to Bougainville and East Timor as well as in training organisations.Other positions during my service had me commanding numerous workshop organisations of varying sizes up to 50 personnel that specialized in the repair of armoured vehicles and other equipment.I left the Army as a Captain in the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps.

This role was a technical sales role. Territory was from Adelaide to Port Pirie. Customer base was mainly industrial, although I did also have some institutional customers. (Hospitals etc...)Some of the clients I worked with included General Motors Holden, Nyrstar, Coca-Cola, Bridgestone and South Australian Brewing.I generated efficiency improvement initiatives to increase service delivery margins by 10% during my time in this role.

I worked with many clients in this role generating technical solutions for problems in Boilers, Cooling Towers and process water systems at remote locations around SA and NT, specifically Olympic Dam, Moomba and Mereenie.I often supervised onsite installation of various equipment ranging from PID controllers, pumps and other process equipment and instrumentation.

I started out in the water industry in this role. I eventually grew to provide technical solutions and advice to various customers in the petrochemical industry in areas of water treatment, water use, process waste stream management and chemical dosing requirements. My client list included Mobil, Qenos and Huntsman chemicals.I also developed service schedules reduction initiatives to lower service costs by a target 50% whilst maintaining current levels of service.
