An casual user of cannabis & derivatives for 35 years, self-medicating for some of that time and more recently prescribed. As a younger man I engaged in cultivation for personal use, though sadly, that was curtailed by her magesty's agents. My GP had refused to help me with a medical defence, depite my protestations that it helped me to tic less, lowered my anxiety and helped with my insomia.At that time they believed cannabis had no medical benefits at all and I was an addict. This was - of course - not the case, I took long breaks between usage with no problems apart from my recurring symptoms.Having benefitted from the positive aspects of cannabis myself, I am interested in the discussion around Medical Cannabis and CBD in the UK.My hope is that at the very least, at some point we will achieve true legalisation of Medical Cannabis, a recognition that cannabis is the best fit for primary care of certain conditions and concession to prescribe more readily, consistently and cheaply across the UK.Personally, I believe that cannabis should be legalised for 'recreational' use too. Many people who are ineligible for a prescription for cannabis, still enjoy using it or would enjoy using it if it were not illegal. I'd also argue that some aspects of recreational use are actually low level self-medication.I believe informed adults should be able to make their own minds up about how they relax or control their symptoms. I don't believe that medical cannabis should be the last line of enquiry and treatment for conditions that are well suited to treatment with cannabinoids.As an anti-spasmodic, cannabis can be extremely effective for example. Why should people have to try multiple dangerous or complicated pharmaceutical alternatives before cannabis enters the treatment paradigm. The claim that too little is known about cannabis is generally disingenuous and claimants are running out of road.So I stand behind legalisation campaigns from all corners, provided education, harm-reduction, home-growing and consistent, fairly priced retail and supply chains are put in place.
