Along with co-founder Dr. Forrest Schultz, we designed an online scoring application for the Wisconsin Science Olympiad competition named Avogadro. After I completed development it was first used at the State-level competition in Wisconsin in 2001. The application grew and evolved; it has been used by five other states and has been used to score the National-level competition twice (with plans to host again in 2016). As Lead Developer, I continually update the software with new features based on feedback from tournament organizers, and take advantage of modern web technologies to make scoring these type of tournaments as effective as possible.

I have freelanced in web development and video production under the name of MidnightDesign since early 2000. I have used my PHP, Javascript, HTML, CSS, and NodeJS skills to create websites and web applications for clients, as well as using the most recent Adobe Creative Suite software to create the design of those sites. I additionally worked on several video pieces for clients: shot live action footage, edited it together for a final piece, and created 3D animation sequences for virtual sets and storytelling.

Worked as a full-stack developer on several microservices that contributed to a clinician dashboard of patient data, to assist with seeing possibilities for improving care for patients with cancer. Converted legacy Elixir projects to Kotlin, created new services in Kotlin to consume and transform Kafka queues, created data visualizations for clinician users in a dashboard embedded into EMR software.

Forte launched a subsidiary company, intended to focus on data analytics at medical research sites; to offer services for research sites to get analytic insight into their business operations. I joined the small team chosen to seed this organization, and the Research Resonance Network application was transitioned to this company. Continued to do front- and back-end development utilizing PHP, HTML, CSS, and Javascript (implementing RequireJS, D3 graphing library, jQuery, and BackboneJS libraries) on the front end, and Java/Oracle on the back-end for this role.The need for such a startup proved to not be there, and so the startup was folded back into the parent company early in 2017.

This was a promotion from my prior position. In addition to my other responsibilities I added the role of "Team Lead" as the web development and technology-focused team grew. Responsibilities include maintaining several websites and web applications, utilizing Drupal and Wordpress CMS systems, custom PHP and Silex management systems, and using Javascript/jQuery/AJAX for creating rich, interactive web applications. This role also includes video production for the company: working with product marketers to come up with a script, and do the editing and effects needed to present product overviews in video format.
