I am the leader of the group Quantum Computing for Earth System Models at the DLR Institute of Atmospheric Physics where we aim to improve climate models using quantum computing. Our largest project is the DLR Quantum Computing Initiative project Klim-QML. I also study gravity waves in the atmosphere using machine learning. My interests include dynamical effects in fluids, such as turbulence and waves, and using novel methods to study these. Before joining the DLR Institute of Atmospheric Physics, I was a junior research group leader at the DLR Institute of Materials Physics in Space. We used a model system ("complex plasma") to investigate the onset of collective effects, especially turbulence, in fluids. Earlier, I held a Marie Curie Outgoing Fellowship to do corresponding simulations at the University of California at Berkeley, and I was the scientific manager of the PK-3 Plus Laboratory on board the International Space Station while working at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics.
