About Miguel Won

I am an NLP Data Scientist and Team Leader at Axians Portugal, a leading provider of ICT solutions and services. With over 8 years of experience in text and data curation, I design and optimize machine learning solutions to support customer support pipelines, using state-of-the-art NLP techniques and tools such as semantic search, text classification, transformers, OpenAI API.My passion for NLP stems from my academic background, first in the field of Particle Physics, and later in Computer Social Sciences, where I developed and supervised manual annotation processes of text corpora, built web archives, extracted and collected data using Twitter API, and implemented several NLP tools for keyphrase extraction, text classification, and named entity recognition. I have published multiple peer-reviewed papers in international journals and conferences, and attended prestigious machine learning schools and programs. I also have experience in web development, creating my own web applications using Django and MongoDB.More recently, I follow closely the new developments in NLP, especially Large Language Models and their applications in diverse domains such as chatbots, semantic search, summarization, and reasoning. I am also an electronics hobbyist, proficient in prototyping systems such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi, and PCB design. As a team leader, I strive to create a collaborative and innovative environment, where we can leverage our diverse skills and experiences to solve complex challenges and make a positive impact in the industry.
