Miguel Bajouco is a Psychiatrist (Hospital Assistant) at the Department of Psychiatry of Unidade Local de Saúde de Coimbra (ULS Coimbra), where he is head of the Psychosis Unit. He received his degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra (FMUC) and then specialized in Psychiatry from 2011 to 2016 at CHUC (Sobral Cid Psychiatric Hospital and Coimbra University Hospital) and at the prestigious Maudsley Hospital in London, where he held a position as Honorary Psychiatrist in the OASIS early intervention in psychosis team. During this time, he also worked as a Visiting Researcher in the Department of Psychosis at the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London.Currently, he holds an academic position at FMUC as an Invited Lecturer in Psychological Medicine and Neuroscience and Mental Health. He is a PhD student and researcher at the Institute of Psychological Medicine and at Coimbra Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research (CIBIT/ICNAS). His primary research interest is the identification of biomarkers of treatment response in Psychotic Disorders using brain imaging techniques such as PET and fMRI associated with Artificial Intelligence techniques.He has authored and co-authored several book chapters and scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals and received important scientific awards, including the Bolsa D. Manuel de Mello (most important research award for young doctors in Portugal) in 2019 for his PhD research project “Multimodal neuroimaging in psychosis of the first episode: the quest for biomarkers of treatment response (INSPIRE: NeuroImagiNg First PsychosIs TReatmEnt)”.
