About Miguel Beltran

Miguel Beltran is a System-Impacted Chicano male from Glendale, CA, with strong ties to Northeast Los Angeles. His personal experiences, marked by eviction, probation, and police harassment during his youth, inspired his pursuit of social justice. He earned his Master's in Sociology from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, where his research focused on the evolution of surveillance cameras in New York City using a mixed methods approach. He was also a member of the Beyond The Bars fellowship. Miguel received his B.A. in Sociology from UCLA as part of the McNair Research Scholars program, where he researched crime, policing, and neighborhood dynamics. Dedicated to advocating for communities impacted by law enforcement and mass incarceration, Miguel plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Sociology to further his research on surveillance and society. He is currently enrolled in the Justice Through Code (JTC) program, a partnership between the Center for Justice and the Tamer Center for Social Enterprise at Columbia Business School. This intensive course is designed to equip him with technical and professional competencies, covering essential topics such as organizational skills, data handling, office productivity tools, HTML/CSS, foundational programming, and introductory JavaScript and Python.I look forward to connecting with students, alumni from UCLA and Columbia, and professionals across various fields to build meaningful relationships and collaborate on advancing our personal, professional, and academic goals.
