About Miguel Pires
💡 WHAT DO I DO?I am an interior designer passionate about crafting mindful and timeless interior design solutions that reflect people's personalities, lifestyles, needs and aspirations. Having briefly obtained interior design experience within a commercial scope, I have since focused on developing projects at a studio setting. I have worked at leading and internationally-renowned Portuguese studios, being involved in projects that present some of the best concepts for interiors, focusing on the luxury residential market, but also embracing other design fields such as high-end retail, office, restaurant, furniture, product, yachts and private jets.I have simultaneously been honoured with an invitation to join the teaching staff at the Lisbon School of Design, the very institution where I studied Interior Design. Now, having become a Professor on the course, I am passionate to contribute to the next generations of designers.🎨 WHAT LED ME TO BECOME A DESIGNER?I have always been exposed to architecture and design, through renovations that my parents undertook in various homes. But it was after my first very own project, in which I completely renovated and redesigned my apartment to create what is now a home that intrinsically expresses who I am and how I live, that I decided to pursue the Interior Design course at Lisbon School of Design. It was during this course, which I completed with an overall grade of 19 out of 20, that I consolidated my artistic, creative and cultural thinking with technical, scientific and legal knowledge. From construction to decoration, and between the process, design and product phases, I obtained skills that allow me to intervene at different scales of residential, commercial, services and leisure spaces.🚀 WHAT OTHER EXPERIENCES INFLUENCED ME PROFESSIONALLY?Before becoming a designer I was a Corporate Communication & Engagement professional at L'Oréal, the world's leader in beauty. On top of having worked with amazing colleagues and mentors from various countries, the projects I was involved in, including various I spearheaded, broadly shaped my professional competencies. I am likewise a proud History graduate, who focused on cultural history and the ways humans interpret modernity and construct stories about their world. My studies surrounding culture, including architecture, largely informed my identity as an interior designer, who fully appreciates the importance of history and culture in shaping interior styles and how they both reflect and produce human experiences.
