• Guide new students in their transition to college life through the development of meaningful educational planning, major selection, co-curricular opportunities, relevant academic information, and applicable campus resources.• Support a student caseload using holistic advising approaches, proactive outreach, and data-informed strategy in an effort to assess potential roadblocks, take early action to mitigate them, and advocate on behalf of students.• Educate students on enrollment, registration, major selection, university processes, and new student success strategies.

Initiate and maintain regular contact with online students; provide individualized outreach, monitor action plans, and track student progress.

Provide college readiness efforts, outreach, tutoring, mentoring, counseling, and support services to first-generation, underrepresented students in selected secondary schools in the Salt Lake Valley to encourage college readiness and college access. Collaborating with high school staff, project coordinator, and other SLCC staff members to offer concurrent enrollment advising services, SLCC Campus Tour planning, scheduling, logistics, and staffing, programs for selected students who participate in a variety of programs that affect academic rigor and college readiness.

The Utah College Advising Corps (UCAC) is a university-based college access program founded on the idea that all high school students deserve equal opportunities to enter institutions of higher education. Established in August 2007 by a generous grant from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation and operated by the Office of Engagement at the University of Utah, UCAC encourages Utah high school students to participate in the various higher education opportunities available to them through the state's nine colleges and universities and throughout the nation. UCAC's ultimate goal is to increase the number of underserved students that enroll in college.

GEAR UP is an acronym for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. It is a seven-year federal grant program that provides services and assistance for low-income students in order to help them successfully graduate from high school and prepare for college.
