Commerce and Ecosystems (C+E) is a group of 5k+ engineers that builds and operates all of Microsoft’s e-commerce and financial services. Within C+E, my group owns the Finance Data Platform & AI: Data Lake along with its processing, system integration, governance and security; analytical, reporting and AI / ML capabilities. Our mandate is to drive the Finance Systems Modernization initiative across Microsoft. We uphold the responsibility of safeguarding over 1 PB of critical financial data and enabling the modern engineering consumption by various vital financial processes and systems such as Tax, Trade, Management Reporting, Statutory Reporting, and Financial Close, among others. By meticulously managing this data and subsequent processing tech stacks, we ensure its accessibility, integrity, and utmost quality. The core mission is to provide robust, secure, governed and scalable big data solutions that empower 20+ large engineering groups and over 20k finance end-users. As one example, we have built AI/ML pipelines for Anomaly Detection and Forecasting of Cash Flow, enabling accurate predictions and actionable insights. Through the implementation of ML-based forecasting models, we have consistently outperformed business-driven approaches, delivering superior accuracy across Microsoft’s $20B quarterly revenue. In addition to achieving remarkable accuracy gains, our ML-powered solution has reduced the processing time from 10 days to mere minutes, enabling agile decision-making with significant financial implications (any 1% accuracy improvement relates to $200M better allocated for Microsoft).Scenarios: organizational cultural shift (from Data as exhaust to data products), data quality services (basic to intelligent), observability and distributed tracing, ingestion and normalization services, consumption (certified to fully managed), event driven and streaming, discoverability (basic to semantic), governance, access control, business intelligence

As part of the Engineering Platform for Commerce and Ecosystems (C+E), my group's responsibilities included owning the Compute, Storage and Observability (telemetry, logging, metrics, alerts, distributed tracing, cross-services scenario health) technical strategy for C+E: out of “n” options, what is the appropriate technology stack to use, balancing the reality of our collateral of thousands of services with the long term direction of the company; filling in the gaps in the desired destination stack by developing high-scale Platform Services (intelligent CosmosDB Auto-scale service, quorum model on top of Azure Tables, container registry and management, backup / restore for SOX compliance); leading the organization through the change (from hundreds of thousands of bare-metal cores to Kubernetes, from thousands of on-prem SQL boxes to CosmosDB or various flavors of Azure SQL, from 3 telemetry pipelines to one); driving any other highly technical PMO-like initiatives around Security (zero-day updates, zero persistent admins), Governance, Incident Management (TTD and TTM improvements through more intelligent Observability and tooling, 3x9s to 4x9s initiative) and Finance (determine and optimize Compute and Storage spend across the thousands of services in C+E)

Led and managed a high-performing group of engineers focused on product monitoring and data insights for the People experiences across multiple platforms, including Windows, Windows Phone, Xbox, and Hololens. I led a highly skilled and geographically distributed group responsible for software testing across multiple platforms, including Zune music services, Xbox.com, and the Windows Phone music applications. I successfully managed teams in Paris, India, and China, fostering effective cross-geographical collaboration and ensuring seamless coordination with stakeholders in Redmond.I spearheaded numerous innovative initiatives that significantly improved the testing process like model-based testing, enabling us to efficiently generate and execute test cases based on specified models. This approach enhanced test coverage and accelerated the identification of potential issues.In addition, I led efforts in fault injection, ensuring our systems and services were resilient to various failure scenarios. By simulating faults and failures in a controlled environment, we proactively identified and addressed vulnerabilities, resulting in improved overall system reliability.Furthermore, I led the development of UI automation frameworks and tools, streamlining the testing process and enabling efficient regression testing. This automation significantly reduced manual effort and accelerated the overall testing cycle.Given the nature of our products, a key challenge was ensuring the quality of content and catalog, particularly in acquiring regular content media such as music files and metadata from record labels. To address this challenge, I built various tools that enabled us to test the quality of the content and catalog systematically. These tools streamlined the validation process, ensuring accurate and up-to-date content, and improving the overall user experience.
