About Mihir Mathur

I could call myself Entrepreneur, Researcher and Educator.I am an interdisciplinary researcher working on sustainability and climate change issues with a aim to develop systemic solutions using Systems Thinking and System Dynamics Modeling and Group Model Building. My areas of work are Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Natural Resource Management, Ecological Economics and Social Ecological Systems. Finance has been my first love which brought me to the world of banking and then stock markets. My previous experience has been as fundamental analyst (equities and commodity) before I decided to move into the world of sustainability research in year 2009. Thereafter I worked in the Climate Change Adaptation Programme (2009-2014) of Watershed Organisation Trust, Pune, before moving to TERI (2014-2017), New Delhi. I have been a visiting faculty at my Alma Mater Sadhana Center for Management and Leadership Development (SCMLD), Pune from 2009 to 2013. In April 2018 I founded my research and consulting firm DESTA (limited liability partnership) with an objective of expanding the field of Systems Thinking and System Dynamics in India through collaborative research, teaching, training and capacity building. DESTA is an acronym, standing for "Developing Ecosystems for Systemic Transformation and Adaptation". It is also a word in the Amharic language of East Africa, meaning joy and happiness, having both the masculine and feminine gender. DESTA's core objective is to advance the field of systems thinking and system dynamics in India through its application in action research, teaching, training and capacity building. The organizational model of DESTA is to grow through networks and create an ecosystem of agents, institutions which can enable systemic transformation and adaptation to the most pressing social, ecological and economic challenges of our times.
