For the first time, I was able to witness the potential of embedded systems in completely automating mundane tasks. We used the CySmart application developed by Cypress Semiconductor to enable the user to control various appliances like fans, tube-lights etc. using an Android smartphone. Further, we used the PSoc Creator to program the PSOC 4 microcontroller which would receive the user-provided Pulse Width Modulated signal from the smartphone. In accordance with the signal received, the microcontroller controlled the working of the desired appliance. Along with this, I also worked on other embedded systems driven projects such as the Internet of things (IOT) sensor node, Gesture controlled USB mouse, Multi-channel data acquisition system during the course. These projects sparked my interest in embedded systems, and I began to read more literature about the same, which enlightened me on varied applications of the same. This burgeoning interest led me to the Masters in Electrical Engineering course in the University of Washington in Seattle.
