Miho is a founder and director of immi lab, an organization that advocates and supports the voices of immigrants in Japan. immi lab provides youth empowerment programs for second generation immigrants especially in Kyoto and Shiga prefectures, and runs creative advocacy programs to tackle the structural oppression.Miho's background is in Human-Centered Design (HCD) especially applied in the field of global health. She is an expert in conducting HCD to solve complex problems, and also well-versed in conducting qualitative research, design research analysis, and experience design. Prior to immi lab, as a Design Strategist at Gobee Group, a social innovation firm based in California in the U.S., Miho was responsible for qualitative and quantitative research, data synthesis and analysis, data visualization, prototyping, training development and facilitation. At Gobee, Miho worked with various clients such as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, JSI, and Blue Shield California Foundation, as well as in different contexts ranging from rural health posts in Ethiopia and India to conference environments in Portugal and Finland.Miho holds B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley, where she focused on Human-Centered Design training in developing regions. In the past, Miho was also a co-founder of SoHub, an organization that facilitates design projects and capacity building workshops in rural communities in Japan. She was born and raised in Kyoto, Japan.
