Emmelle Design operates as a vertically integrated apparel manufacturing and retail company, housing two distinct brands: Emmelle and Mi Jong Lee. Company activities are divided into two main segments – in-house manufacturing for our own brands and providing development and volume manufacturing services for external companies.In 1982, Lee opened a retail store named Emmelle Boutique, which then developed into Emmelle Design – the house line. Lee's commitment to understated elegance cultivated a loyal customer base. In 2007, Emmelle Design moved into its first Garment District atelier and successfully launched a wholesale division which is now sold in over 65 specialty stores across the US and Canada. In 2014, Lee developed her eponymous line: Mi Jong Lee – the collection pillars include classic foundations with a distinct influence from the world of fine arts, a refined embrace of color, original custom print design, and high ethics and sustainability standards.At the height of the pandemic, in 2020, the company pivoted into PPE manufacturing. With two other veteran manufacturers, Lee formed The NYC Manufacturer's Coalition and led it through two NYC contracts; a Federal Contract and a collaboration with the nonprofit organization Fashion Girl's For Humanity to deliver PPE gowns to underserved communities.The collections continued to be made, designed and manufactured by Lee and her skilled team in-house at her atelier in New York City's Garment District. Her latest expansion project focuses on providing a seamless client experience while championing her support for NYC's Garment District.
