I systematized a slapdash content generation workflow, bringing 3 independently-acting writers into a single review process. I then redefined the impact goals of our holistic health blog and continuously reevaluated whether we were hitting the mark.

To monitor avian populations in Yosemite NP and Mt. Rainier NP, I conducted 54 surveys over two seasons. A partner and I hiked over 150 miles in each park to access historical survey points and made real-time decisions to preserve data integrity and technician safety in an unstable environment. To continue a 30-year dataset on avian fall migration through southwestern Michigan, I banded over 2,000 songbirds over two seasons. I worked collaboratively with a lead bander and 1-2 peers, and took part in the training and mentorship of new assistant banders and volunteers. I also presented to groups of 7-40 visitors, answering questions about birds, natural history, and the scientific process.Two seasons: Fall 2018 + Fall 2019

To assess the effect of winter severity on deer mortality, I captured deer and installed GPS units and ear tags. Fieldwork occurred in northern Maine, where snow is several feet deep and snowmobiles were required to access study sites.

To evaluate the effect of grazing on wildlife within the CRP program, I used the rope-drag flushing technique to locate grassland bird nests. I then monitored nests every 3-4 days, collected blood samples and morphometric data from 8 dickcissel nestlings, and used periodic observations to deduce the nest fate.

I operated a 16-net, constant-effort banding station according to MAPS protocol. Responsibilities included extraction, identification, banding and collection of demographic and morphometric data.

I contributed to long-term grassland restoration experiments through field work, statistical analysis, and project management. Worked with two peers to conduct multivariate statistical analysis on a long-term dataset for publication. Coordinated scheduling for time-sensitive experiments and trapping efforts. Prioritized laboratory tasks, maintained equipment in working order, and compiled data collected by over 20 students.

I supervised open climb hours, familiarizing new climbers with wall rules, etiquette & climbing basics and enforcing safe climbing behavior. I also set routes for all skill levels and body types--a challenge for someone at 5'3"--and taught beginning climbing courses.

Worked as part of a team to support the restoration and conservation of native ecosystems. With little or no supervision: used chainsaws and other power tools, navigated an 800-acre arboretum, and safely felled trees, among other tasks.Three seasons: Summer 2015 (FT) + Spring 2017 + Winter 2018

I provided support to all aspects of the Ecosystem Ecology lab. Besides pulling materials and familiarizing myself with protocols, this broadly meant that I stayed one step ahead, anticipating the next task and making sure that things are ready for the students. I also provided support with lab reports, assisting with statistical analysis in R and SPSS and read drafts.

To measure the efficacy of a new pest repellant for sunflower crops, I built avian enclosures over crop rows and monitored red-winged blackbirds released into the enclosures.

I designed an experiment to evaluate the potential use of an autonomous monitoring device for marine systems. I used statistical modeling in R to relate high-frequency water quality data to phytoplankton photosynthesis and respiration in a dynamic system, independently solving modeling problems such as uneven water flow. Prepared a report and gave a presentation to communicate my process and results to the University of Delaware Marine Sciences faculty.

I worked alone or in small teams to construct the theatrical set in often-condensed timelines. I was frequently trusted to solve problems independently and train new assistants.
