I work along side Dr. Hurwitz and other undergraduate students to conduct metagenomic research. Currently, we are using high performance computing to search for viral DNA in human fecal samples. Through this internship, I have learned how to use several bioinformatics tools and I strengthen my understanding of Python and Unix coding.

For a full semester I was a teaching assistant for Physics 141: Introduction to Mechanics. Each week I was assigned a packet of 10-15 problems and I would meet with the professor to go over my answers and to discuss any concerns about the students. Then I would assist a class of about 20 students work through the packet for an hour, for two different sessions.

Expanded on my experience in critical care at SAVAHCS by caring for patients recovering from critical illness. Managed time efficiently to ensure all patient care needs were met in a timely manner. Frequently used critical judgment to asses patient needs and coordinate appropriate plans of action with registered nurses. Coordinated and completed patient mobility with members of physical therapy to ensure each patient exercised range of motion to the best of their ability.

 Greeted guests and ensured their experience was pleasurable and reflected the values of the company. Sat costumers and communicated with the servers accordingly. Ensured each table was clean and silverware before the guests arrived. Bussed tables and ensured a clean working environment in compliance with safe chemical handing. Efficiently used a multi-phone line to answer guest questions and complete take-out orders.

Proficient with multiple computer programs used at the facility. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with management, coworkers, patients, family member. Created and implemented a new unit wide CNA report sheet. Demonstrated leadership skills by joining the STAR-VA committee and created individualized non-pharmaceutical techniques to prevent disruptive behavioral symptoms of cognitive disorders and within the STAR-VA committee I became a STAR-VA Champion and traveled to other units and created STAR-VA plans for numerous patients. While safely assisting patients with activities of daily living, taking vital signs and assisting the nurse.

Created a foundation for clear and professional communication between coworkers and patients. Executed time management skills to ensure all tasks and patient cares were completed in a timely manner with flexibility to adapt to inconveniences. Demonstrated delegation of tasks between coworkers. Established a complete understanding of HIPPA and how to secure patient’s records. Orientate new hire CNAs. While safely assisting patients with activities of daily living, taking vital signs and assisting the nurse.
