In 2018 I completed my year and a half long study at Luther College to understand the properties of a rock interface. Through my research I was trying to discover which earthquake characteristics can be accurately modeled in a laboratory setting. I used a single block and spring setup to analyze the interaction between sandpaper with paper towels and quartz with quartz. I built an apparatus to determine how accurate specific characteristics such as stick-slip friction, energy release, creep, asperity size and frictional aging are demonstrated.I have completed three summer internships with Astec Mobile Screens in Sterling, IL. During the first summer at AMS I used Autodesk Inventor to update flat patterns for the break press operator, drew various parts to be used within assemblies and participated in a focus group to decrease the cost of production while improving the function of machines. During my second summer at AMS I created and exploded assemblies. I also created assembly books the assembly team. While at NIU I continued my internship with AMS and updated assembly books, modified assemblies to meet the 2019 designs, assisted in designing and assembling a new screening unit and drawing hydraulic hoses for the same screening unit. While at Luther College, I developed working knowledge with Python, Fortran and MATLAB. At NIU I was introduced to programs including SOLIDWORKS and ANSYS Workbench. Since joining the Frontline BioEnegy team I have gained experience using SolidWorks to design ASME B31.3 process piping and vertical tower structures for several projects. I have used Microsoft Excel to compute the heat loss of process piping and vessels and communicated with vendors to select the correct heat trace components for the system.
