Bridging the gap between the health care provider and the patient, hearing and understanding what the Doctor is saying and later explaining to the patient and their family what was said in a way that they can comprehend. I demystify the diagnosis, explaining disease and treatment in terms that non-scientist can understand. My presence lowers the stress of upsetting and incomprehensible diagnosis by repeating, explaining, reassuring and essentially educating the patient and family.

Nature photography company. Founded by me in 2000 using my unique nature photographs. Collaborated on the web site design to create a site allowing ease of use while showcasing images and different products available. Managed all aspects of the company. Represented PEPL at trades shows, interacted and liaised with designers, architects, printers and clients. Formulated and communicated business plans and strategies. Utilised excellent people skills (courtesy, tact and diplomacy) to comfortably interact with people from different aspects of the design industry. Cardiovascular research investigating the genetic influences in the development of atherosclerosis. My research looked at the role of matrix metalloproteinases in atherosclerotic plaque formation, specifically the functional role of the stromelysin-1 promoter polymorphism in plaque formation.P.I. Learned molecular biology techniques to complement existing cellular biology skill set. Created transgenic mice. Isolated DNA, Screened bacterial DNA libraries for specific fibrillin gene fragments.

Ophthalmology research. I was the group leader responsible for establishing and implementing a program for testing anti-cataract drugs. I investigated, validated and implemented animal models of cataract formation for testing anti-cataract drugs. Established the pre-clinical testing program for anti-cataract drugs. I trained and supervised a team of 10.

Cardiovascular research investigating which domains on the atrial natriuretic factor molecule were responsible for reducing blood pressure. I performed basic pharmacological studies of atrial natriuretic peptide drug candidates on animal models. Additionally I researched, designed and tested new animal models of heart disease and kidney failure for additional drug screening.

Ophthalmology research. I assisted in the testing of a novel drug for the treatment of Age Related Macular degeneration. Performed tissue processing, histology and electron microscopy of retinal samples. Attended conferences and presented the research data.P.I. Gary Thomas M.D.
