My time with B & K has seen me lead a variety of interesting Projects from inception to completion. These include:Project Green - £23m commercial office develoment in Notttingham. A nine storey structure with RC cores and a two storey RC basement car park, hewn from Nottingham Sandstone. A structural Steelwork frame is clad with glazed curtain walling and terracotta cladding. The Roundhouse, Derby College - £32m restoration of grade 2* listed buildings including the oldest surviving railway Roundhouse in the world. New build to create a new main campus from Derby College. Tyneside sewerage Scheme *6m - A fantastic introduction to The industry! Approximately nine miles of 1.8m diameter tunnel, bored using a full faced tunnel boring machine used in conjunction with pipe jacking. The machine used Bentonite mud to create a face and crunched through "cobbles" some 20m below the surface to form the tunnel. Arisings were mixed with the bentonite mud inside the machines "crunching head" and pumped to the surface where they were seperated into skips via a screening plant.My role as engineer on the scheme involved the setting out of both drive and reception shafts, supervision of their excavation, establishment of drive lines and their transference from surface to underground. Installation and setting out of the pipe jacking rams and assosciated thrust blocks in the drive shafts.Once tunneling commenced I was responsible for wire drops, line and level checks and ensuring the consistancy of the bentonite mud was maintained at it's correct level of viscosity.
