  • Genu
    Manager Genu Individual Support Services
    Genu Nov 2017 - Apr 2020
    Geelong West, Australia
Managing the delivery of all individual support services, both in home and in the community for disability and aged care clients of genU. The role has included a large portion of my previous responsibilities based in Warrnambool. This position has required a combination of strategic overview with an eye for detail, given the need for strategic change whilst retaining the individual attention required for service delivery. The most significant requirement of this position was to develop teams across the branch which met the cultural and performance requirements of the business. The branch was dealing with significant numbers of complaints from staff and clients as well as a very low morale. This required ensuring appropriate management of the teams and then mentoring those within the teams, particularly in regard to cultural and behavioural expectations. One of the more significant challenges has been the management of a complex multi-income stream budget, both in the South West and in the Individual Support areas.

I was responsible for the strategic planning, financial management, staff management and co-ordination of activities for within this department and in its relationships with the wider Council functions.Prior to 2011 I directly carried out policy planning under the Resource Management Act as well as sharing the corporate planning work with the Chief Executive. As the role widened these specific duties were carried out by staff who reported to me.Additional duties have included processing all notified land use planning consent applications. These have typically been related to oil and gas exploration and production. In addition I have held the role of Deputy Chief Executive from 2004 to the present and was Acting Chief Executive from February to June 2011.Notable achievements during this time include:• Shifting the regulatory and planning focus to customer service• “Exacerbator pays” regime to dog control and other regulatory functions• Standardisation of documents• Basic process mapping for regulatory functions• Development of KPI reporting to Council on regulatory functions• Development of Quality Management System for Building Control• Development of GIS planning maps• Review of the Stratford District Plan• Review of complete bylaws• Two major and two minor enforcement matters through the Environment Court (all successful)• Several enforcement proceedings through the District Court (all successful)• Development of the Department into what has been recognized as being one of the most efficient and effective teams within local government in NZ (2008).
