Design, develop, and maintain software with Office.js/Office 365 code in TypeScript, web services in C#, and interfaces to APIs for commercial AI services.Responsible for IP strategy including using copyright, patent, and trade secret appropriately and avoiding collision with the IP of competitors in the market. For patents, I assess the value of potential patents, prosecute those with the most potential, and then maximize the value of the resulting patents. I also stay on top of current developments in IP law to make sure that our developers can maximize their effectiveness with AI, but without interfering with our ability to secure patents or copyrights on our work.

I worked with the founder to help coordinate the activities of a remote technical development team in India. Helped the sales team and an outside contractor develop and maintain video marketing materials. Met with partners and key customers to better understand how Doc Buddy was meeting their needs and how we could improve.

We developed legal drafting software in C++, Lua, and VBA to automate legal citation checking, formatting, quote checking, generating a table of authorities, and much more. We integrated our software into Lexis for Microsoft Office (LMO) where it contributed to many awards for LMO including Table of Authorities Product of the Year for six years in a row. Coordinated our remote development team with customer technical and marketing teams around the United States and India.Oversaw filing and prosecution of our patent portfolio, which added considerable value when we sold the company. In particular, my work to structure the IP portfolio gave us substantial tax advantages to the employees and investors in the acquisition.Worked with executive management, senior technical people, and senior legal leadership at private and government customers to help close contracts, understand customer needs, and ultimately to sell the company.

Most recently worked on a DARPA-funded project to develop a next-gen supercomputer. Our machine had a max config of 256K processors and 4 PB of RAM. I was in the languages and tools group developing tools to help physicists and other scientific users program the system without having to become computer scientists. Before that, I supervised and worked with remote developer groups in Russia, China, France, and around the US on tools and highly parallel mathematics libraries written in Fortran, C++, and assembly; met many customers at the tech and senior management levels; and worked on many cross-organizational projects mostly in software with some hardware.In 2000, I won the Chairman's Award for Technical Excellence, which is Sun's highest technical honor. In 2002, I received an award from Sun's Northwest Regional Sales Division in recxognition of work with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Wildfire Project to deploy a cluster of large servers.

Design, develop, and sell highly parallel mathematical software written in Fortran, C++, Java, SPARC assembly, and x86 assembly. We helped compiler and system vendors OEM our libraries, developed custom supercomputer software with Los Alamos National Laboratory, and did custom pre-sales and post-sales parallelization and optimization work for HPC accounts. Sold the company to Sun Microsystems in 1998.

Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, United States

Develop software to integrate radar and other telemetry gathered over the course of a training mission and then graphically present that information on Silicon Graphics workstations. Bomber crews and their commanders used the information presented to assess the success of the crews in evading air defense systems and completing simulated bombing missions while flying bombers in a multi-state instrumented range. The work involved handling classified military and intel material, so I held a security clearance from the Air Force.

Worked with customers including on-site work at the John von Neumann Supercomputer Center in Princeton, NJ. Worked on various educational software programs, some of which I wrote from scratch and many of which I modified to meet new requirements. I designed and implemented copy protection softrware that works with the BIOS to prevented unauthorized copying of our IBM PC software distributed on disks. Although I worked on many different things at MECC on various microcomputers and Control Data mainframes, my greatest claim to fame at this organization will always be the fact that I worked on the development of the Apple II, Atari, and IBM PC versions of Oregon Trail and Odell Lake.
