Mike Bowe is Professor Emeritus of International Finance and a former Head of the Accounting & Finance Division and member of the senior management team at Alliance Manchester Business School. He has also led both the Finance and Business Economics academic subject areas at the University of Manchester. Mike graduated from Oxford University. He is the Founding Director of the Centre for the Analysis of Investment Risk (CAIR), launched in Manchester in 2005 with funding provided by a consortium of major financial services institutions. In addition to his current appointments, Mike has held Visiting Professorships and Fellowships at Universities such as Aalto (HKKK), Emory, Vienna, Kyiv-Mohlya, and the National University of Singapore, and external examinerships at the LSE, City, Lancaster, both Trinity and University College Dublin, Exeter, Aberdeen and York.Mike has extensive higher education (HE) curriculum and programme development expertise. He led the University of Manchester team that initiated the innovative dual honours degree/professional qualification awarded by the University and the Institute of Financial Services (ifs), formerly the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) (resulting in the ifs/CIB becoming the second largest private HE contributor in the UK (after the NHS)). The Times newspaper (UK) describes this initiative as “the learning link that paves the way to the future”. Enrolment quickly exceeded 20,000 students from over 50 countries. Mike's knowledge transfer and consulting experience incorporate international finance and FOREX derivatives markets. He has worked on projects with the World Bank, Canadian International Development Agency, Union Bank of Finland Ltd., Kansallis-Osake-Pankki, Bank of Valletta and the Malta Stock Exchange, among others. His professional memberships encompass several academic Associations including the American Finance Association, Eastern Finance Association and the Academy of International Business.
