I spent one year working with the Zanzibar Elimination of Schistosomiasis Transmission (ZEST) project on the islands of Unguja and Pemba, Tanzania. This research study is divided into three arms, working in 45 villages on each island. I worked with the Behavioral Intervention component. My responsibilities included:• Led the development of an interview guide and conducted 30 Swahili-language interviews with Madrassa teachers• Led the creation of a Swahili-language script and worked with Tanzanian co-workers to create a 30-minute Schistosomiasis educational video for use in schools • Assisted in the design and construction of laundry washing platforms to encourage people to wash away from infected water bodies• Independently created and maintained a database in Excel for monitoring data related to the behavioral intervention

• Led the development of an undergraduate research journal for Tulane students• Provided daily website updates in order to disseminate research opportunities for undergraduate students• Served as a liaison between students and professors in order to link students to potential research opportunities

I conducted an independent, observational study to investigate multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB) in a rural South African-community. I shadowed and interviewed nurses and health care workers involved in the treatment and control of MDR-TB. I travelled to South Africa through a 4-month, community health study abroad program including a Zulu language course and a 2 month homestay in a township
