I worked directly with Mike at Soteria's offensive security practice for over two years. There were two things about Mike that struck me the most. He is a high performer who loves his profession, elevates everyone around him, and goes above and beyond the call of duty. Furthermore, it does not take long to notice that he is a modern-day Renaissance man who is well-informed, engaged with the world, and living life to the fullest. Mike did amazing things at Soteria. He perfectly exemplified our company values of being investigative, engaged, authentic, and caring. He is an avid learner, and the amount of effort he has dedicated to training and professional development shows. His technical knowledge spans a wide variety of topics and he is fully capable of leading just about any type of project or offensive security engagement. We spent many hours and late nights together in the team's collaboration chatroom problem solving and compromising some of the world's most sensitive systems. During his time at Soteria, Mike was clearly devoted to the company's success and acted like an owner. Mike always upheld his responsibilities as a member of the team and held himself accountable for the success of his client engagements. Some examples of internal initiatives that he voluntarily undertook include developing new service offerings, managing vendor relationships and product evaluations, overhauling our website, authoring blog posts, creating marketing materials, attending industry events as a company representative, recruiting several people from his network, and creating internal trainings. He is also a clear communicator and natural leader who often shares surprisingly deep insights derived from his own experiences. After all that we have been through, I consider him to be both a mentor and a friend. The better I got to know Mike, the more I started to think of him as a bit of a maverick figure. At the surface he appears to be just a hacker and business professional with a remarkable career in cybersecurity, but I never would have guessed some of the side projects and clever life strategies that he has. I also noticed that Mike's information digest seemed to overlap significantly with mine. It was clear to me that Mike is an overall well-rounded person who is aware of relevant industry news and engages in personal development through reading books, listening to podcasts, and writing.
