Process Engineer/Development EngineerPactiv Jun 2007 - Feb 2011Rochester, Ny• Managed project to locate and qualify post-consumer PP and PS resin streams. Samples were collected and tested for material quality and mechanical properties by melt flow, color testing, DSC, IR, and GC. Materials were compounded with a twin screw extruder and injection molded for ASTM testing. Unique materials provided challenging injection molding trials. • Designed and managed trials for R&D inline twin screw extruder/thermoformer, and injection molder for the development of new additives for adding strength, and additives to act as filler, as well as bio materials, and high density foams. • Created a new antifog coating and application process for clear OPS containers. Coating was applied by roll coating to the extruded sheet prior to thermoforming. The viscous coating was mixed and delivered to the inline roll coater through an intricate pressure regulated system. The coating prompted more than a 50% increase in business during the developmental stage, and reduced equipment downtime over 15% from the previous antifog system. The system was also a major improvement for plant safety and cleanliness.• Managed project on an antimicrobial coating for clear produce containers to be applied by a label or sachet.• Process engineer in PP, TFPP, and OPS. Worked primarily on thermoforming, as well as in extrusion for new processor trays, roaster domes, and take out containers using design of experiments (DOE), SAP, QAS, and Minitab.• Managed QC for a direct food contact startup on an inline HIPS container. Product required multiple daily inspections, as well as daily and weekly reports to the customer in a GMP area. • Started up new multi-line, inline, clear PP drinking and soufflé cup facility. In charge of Rim Rolling, and team member for thermoforming and initial R&D design work. Scheduled and ran trials on a one up inline thermoformer prior to start up.
