Mike worked in VA for 36 years as a primary care physician and local, regional, and national leader in access, clinic management, performance improvement, and informatics. As a Chief of Staff, he was part of the leadership team that integrated two hospitals into one system. Nationally, he led the development of "clinical reminders" in VA, responsible in part for VA's leadership in quality care. Dr. Davies championed and facilitated the institution of clinic managers. He led the largest access collaborative ever done in Primary Care, started a led improvements in inpatient flow including establishment of flow informatics tools, and led one of the few successful implementations of a national scheduling system. Outside VA, Mike led over 50 year-long access collaboratives with teams from all types of systems around the world. He facilitated an executive retreat at the King Faisal Hospital in Saudi Arabia. Mike has been an author of over 20 scholarly articles. He and his wife have 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and currently enjoy the ranching life in Western SD.
