Before taking early retirement in the autumn of 2012 I worked for 43 years in the downstream oil industry, the first 19 being with Esso in the UK, and the remainder with Kuwait Petroleum International. In KPI I occupied a series of senior positions both in the European Head Office and a range of Operating Units, culminating in a five year+ stint as Finance, Planning and Marketing Director of KPI's largest Operating Unit, Kuwait Petroleum Italia. I have wide experience in all aspects of downstream oil, although as a non-engineer I have never worked inside a refinery operation. My years of involvement in and experience of the oil markets gives me a considerably broader understanding of and insight into this complex business than many who have come to it more recentlyApart from those roles where professional engineering is a basic requirement during my career I have had experience in almost all major functions at senior management and/or director level, as will be clear from reading the more detailed CV below.Having now relocated back to the UK I have yet to make any final decision for the future but would like to have the opportunity to share the experience and expertise I have amassed in an advisory or non-executive director capacity, either in an oil-industry-related environment, or elsewhere.I am a member of both the Institute of Directors and the Energy Institute

RetiredPreviously With Kuwait Petroleum International Oct 2012 - PresentDorking, Surrey, UkI retired from Kuwait Petroleum on 30 September 2012 and have relocated back to the UK. My wife and I are still in the process of settling in and as of now I have made no decisions about whether to continue to work or take a long-awaited period of relaxation. Having said that I have yet to find the relaxation and seem to be at least as busy now I am "retired" as I was before.

Logistics And Manufacturing ManagerKuwait Petroleum International Lubricants (Q8Oils) 2000 - 2005Part of a core management team of MD plus 3 first lines execs that first unified and then expanded the various lubricants production and marketing activities in the Kuwait Petroleum International group in Europe, thus creating "KPIL". My main responsibilites were for new product development, sourcing of raw materials and components, operation of five blending plants and onward distribution of lubricants within Europe and beyond. One key achievement was the negotiation and successful implementation of a strategic alliance with a key component manufacturer, this bringing with it preferred access to new technologoies as the supplier developed them. -
Logistics And Distribution CoordinatorKuwait Petroleum International 1989 - 2005London, United KingdomReporting to the Group Planning Director I was responsible for oversight and development of Logistics and Distribution functions in all operating companies across Europe. My role was to be the interface between the Group and local operations and to be the local operations access to Group management as circumstances required. At the time KPI was a young and disparate group having been brought together in the prior 6 years through acquisition, so a major part of the task was to spread expertise and best practice and identify and promote key improvement steps. KPI was also acquisitve and I played a functional role in a range of M&A activities both successful and less so. My responsibiloity also involved supply support to the Aviation company where it operated outside the Group's core European footprint and I thus gained supply expertise and familiarity with markets in the Far East including Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand. I was also in KPI during the invasion, occupation and eventual liberation of Kuwait which was an interesting nperiod, shall we say.
