I’ve not done this alone of course and It’s been great fun working with so many knowledgeable expert mariners, engineers and naval architects in so many offices to get LOC to the world leader it is today. But far more valuable to me are the friendships that have grown over the years and these will remain, I hope, for much longer.I’m sorry that I have not been able to help more over the last 18 months, but as you may know I have been battling with bowel cancer, which thankfully is now cured, and recovery is just about complete. (This has meant that I have been on medical furlough so not allowed to work or communicate in any way for fear of invalidating LOC’s insurance.) Mike is a Master Mariner and Renewables Business Line Director with LOC (London Offshore Consultants) where he leads in offshore wind farms, floating offshore wind, wave, tidal flow and cable projects.He has worked for 17 years as a Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) where he has provided practical advice, reviewed and approved the transportation and construction methods and operations on 26 renewables projects. Mike is currently leading a study for Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator program on “Installation and Logistical Challenges of Floating Offshore Wind”. As well as preparing guidance on industry engagement with Marine Warranty Surveyors and having successfully drafted “Guidelines for the Selection and Operation of Jack-Ups in the Marine Renewable Industry” for RenewableUK. He had a seafaring career spanning 17 years with an oil major, followed by 13 years ashore as Commercial Operations Manager and Casualty Coordinator. Since joining LOC in 2000 he has also attended casualties, investigated incidents and given expert evidence in arbitration and High Court and House of Commons in London, Sydney, New York, Rotterdam and Stockholm.
