I develop software to improve the security and performance of large computer networks by:• Automating the configuration and management of hundreds of network devices.• Integrating network management, performance, and security tools.• Profiling network structures, behaviors, and security.I also administer and troubleshoot the operation of Cisco's Network Services Orchestrator (NSO) platform and run the CI/CD process that puts software updates into production.

I’ve been programming since I was a teenager, and written production code in Python, Perl, C, and Lisp. To update my skillset, I completed the App Brewery “100 Days of Code: The Complete Python Pro Bootcamp” course through Udemy (https://www.udemy.com/course/100-days-of-code/). I enjoyed increasing my core Python skills and becoming proficient in Pandas, REST APIs, and full-stack web development with Bootstrap, Flask, and Jinja.

Here I took a step back and some time out to better understand the pandemic situation and my interests and options going forward. I decided to do a sabbatical. In this role, I worked with various multi-disciplinary teams on special projects that require something “extra” to fix problems or accelerate progress (e.g. process improvement or developing handy software).I’m most proud to have fast-tracked a complex engineering analysis that was behind schedule—getting the desired results in only 20% of the originally scheduled time. I did this by introducing a new approach to modeling automotive electrical systems and writing software to analyze the models.

Here I guided 4 teams to identify over $23 million in annual carmaker savings opportunities by improving team collaboration and promoting standards. Through pursuing transparency and actively managing customer expectations, I helped my group meet all delivery targets.

Canton, Michigan

Co-led an organization-wide change to overhaul the company’s project management process. In this role, I advanced the effort by creating over 20 SharePoint sites to act as a single source of truth for more than 900 dates and 4,000 tasks. On a different project, I eliminated over 5 months of validation effort by writing software to extract data from 3 separate systems and analyze over 47,000 wire terminations.

This assignment involved product development, optimizing vehicle electrical systems, and managing engineering software. In this role, I designed a “Google for parts”-like system and led a cross-functional team of 12 people to develop it. In a more “hands-on” role, I designed, developed, and implemented software to analyze the impact of moving electrical devices and connect two different engineering software platforms.One of the most fun things I did here was invent a method to automate detecting mismatched circuits. Using it makes it easy to avoid design goofs that result in embarrassing problems with a prototype vehicle’s function.

Troy, Michigan

Here I managed the design and implementation of many improvements to a proprietary product data management (PDM) system for wiring harnesses. The revamped system was used for over 15 years and saved the company over $8 million in commercial licensing costs alone. In addition, I wrote over 30,000 lines of code in dozens of applications to manipulate data, calculate statistics, and track software use.EWD L.L.C. was a Troy, MI based company that designed and manufactured automotive wire harnesses. These parts connect every electrical device in a vehicle. This public company operated in seven locations, employing approximately 5,000 people with over one $1 billion in annual revenues.

In this role I managed project requirements and timing while directly supervising others. I improved customer satisfaction by smoothly managing the incorporation of over 2,000 customer-driven design changes in about 240 parts. This improvement directly contributed to at 10% increase in business.Acustar Inc. was an automotive parts company based in Troy, MI that designed and produced wire harnesses, electronics, glass, and plastics. A $3 billion wholly owned subsidiary of Chrysler Corporation, the company operated in 21 locations, employing approximately 24,000 people.

In this role, I used my experience in wire harness design and software development to help create an industry-first computer-aided wire harness design system that reduced time-to-market by about 30%. The scope of this activity covered about a dozen teams located in the U.S. and Mexico (approximately 50 people).I also designed, developed, and implemented software to: reduce costs by increasing part commonality; schedule and track over 3,000 CAD jobs.
