I am CEO of the children's emotional health charity Free to Be Kids.Free to Be supports particularly disadvantaged children from London to begin to change their stories about who they are, and who they can be. Our therapeutic residential projects help children used to feeling marginalised and excluded to instead experience feeling included, adventurous, proud and successful, and to believe they can achieve more than they had thought.The majority of our work is via nature based residential projects, using the breathing space that adventures in the outdors offer to children from particularly complex backgrounds. For those most in need, we aim to offer longer term London based mentoring. Or year round support via our residential Journey Programme where the same small grup of high need young people return on residential projects across the year each designed to help them safely experience overcoming challenge, explore untapped potential often hidden within the statutory education system, and grow to become the person they want to be.More about the brilliant work of Free to Be can be found here: www.freetobekids.org.ukBeyond the above, I am an experienced Social Worker and independent expert in safeguarding provision for charities, in particular those working via residential projects, the outdoors, mentoring, making use of large numbers of volunteers, or who otherwise work with children from complex backgrounds in niche or new ways. For these groups I offer safeguarding consultation, review and support services either independently, or via Free to Be, depending on the support required.
