Develop engineering evaluations for mechanical items and assemblies to determine their suitability for installation in nuclear plant systems based on existing regulatory, technical and safety requirements. These often involve collaboration and interaction with various disciplines including electrical engineering, instrumentation and control, civil/seismic, plant operations, plant maintenance, fire protection and regulatory.Develop test plans and acceptance criteria utilizing in house lab equipment and personnel to ensure various parts and assemblies intended for installation in nuclear systems meet required specifications and will perform safely and effectively per regulatory requirements and license commitments.Work with Duke Energy's vendor quality/nuclear oversight department to develop and execute vendor/manufacturer audits and surveillances for certain critical parts and assemblies. I have participated in numerous manufacturer audits and surveys, providing engineering expertise and input during the audit and contributing to the final audit report. These included collaboration with industry-wide NUPIC member utilities. I've also led and participated in several vendor surveillance visits to witness assembly manufacture/testing.Routinely interact with vendors and original equipment manufacturers to understand and evaluate design changes and their potential effects on nuclear plant system safety and reliability.

Same responsibilities and duties as above for senior level, though with more management oversight and guidance at the Engineer II level.

Responsibilities included carrying out failure investigations for aircraft parts (primarily metallic part failures), utilizing analytical lab equipment to ascertain the root cause of failures and preparing formal reports for management stating the conclusion of the investigations. I also participated in large scale, aircraft crash investigations as part of a larger, interdisciplinary team working to determine the cause(s) of aircraft accidents. Other duties included weld inspection of test specimens completed by students of the Navy Weld School and helping train new hires on the use of lab equipment and the general methodology of failure investigation.
