Structural Engineer supporting the build of the New Glenn rocket to reach millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth!

Responsibilities:• Act as Chief Mechanical Engineer in Integration and Test phase of complex unfurlable antenna build, responsible for drawing ownership, recommending and approving MRB actions, and acting as systems engineering authority in targeted areas of design• Perform design on space structures with complex load paths• Create CAD models using top-down design methodology• Implement use of skeleton modeling in PTC Creo for complex assemblies• Work in a team of design engineers, test engineers, structural analysts, thermal analysts, performance analysts, and program managers to reach program objectives• Communicate professionally and in a team environment to achieve program and company goals• Employ robust engineering principles to ensure precision assembly of work products, successful test programs, and 100% reliability in an austere space environment for the full life of the product• Write Manufacturing Instructions (MI) per item Drawings and Item Parts Lists in support of item production - MI’s to be fully instructive such that operator(s) can produce item to drawing using only guidance from the MI

Functional Group Lead responsible for the career development and work assignment of 8 mechanical engineers.

Responsibilities:• Create cost and schedule estimates in order to obtain funding• Generate form/fit/function and testing requirements for new design projects.• Systems engineering technical reviews.• Use of CAD software (Wildfire Pro/Engineer & CREO Elements) for 3D modeling, 2D technical drawing creation, and Model Based Definition (3D electronic drawings).• Employ Geometric Dimensions and Tolerancing (GD&T) to optimize products for manufacturing, inspection, and function.• Define load cases, constraints, assumptions, and customer goals for engineering analysis• Use of PTC Windchill PDMLink for data configuration management.• Use of FEA and GEA for structural analysis (Pro/Mechanica and Simulate)• Work closely with the manufacturing department and facility to create cost-effective products.• Work with test team to generate test plans and participate in all test events for designs.• Input to operational procedures and generation of source data for total life cycle logistics support.Other Experience Gained:• Product design through total lifecycleo Systems Engineeringo Project Managemento Requirements developmento Concept designo Design for manufacturingo GD&To Bills of Material / Parts Listso Assembly / Component Detail Manufacturing Drawingso Finite/Geometric Element Analysiso Materials selectiono Technical writing• Established informal mentoring relationship with younger engineer, providing tasking, educating on standard NAVAIR processes, reviewing drawings, critiquing modeling, and evaluating designs• Frequently interfaced with manufacturing personnel to gain insight on process capabilities as well as constraints due to tolerances, cost, time to machine, and material restrictions.• Coordinated commencement of Independent Peer Reviews (IPRs) for review of structural analyses.
