Technical DirectorBerry Global, Inc. Jan 2013 - Oct 2022Evansville, In, Us-Responsible for new film development in the stretch film, shrink film, agricultural film, industrial can liner, and poly vinyl chloride film divisions accounting for approximately half of the total billion dollars in sales in the films division of Berry Plastics-Developed and commercialized an industry leading PVC replacement film in 2015. This film was critical to compliment our PVC films sold in Europe due to legislative pressure and had a firm deadline dictated by the EU.-Manage a team of individuals that have commercialized our Revolution PVC film, Fortitude stretch hand film, Stratos Stretch Hand Wrap, Winlock Hand Wrap, Total Blockade mulch film, Bullseye shrink wrap, and Durawrap shrink wrap.-Manage a team of individuals that continually find over a million dollars of cost reductions in resin each year without impacting quality. -
Technical ManagerBerry Global, Inc. Mar 2005 - Oct 2022Evansville, In, Us-Responsible for new film development in the stretch film, shrink film, agricultural film, industrial can liner, and poly vinyl chloride film divisions accounting for approximately half of the total billion dollars in sales in the films division of Berry Plastics-Daily interface with purchasing, manufacturing, and sales to develop value added films that differentiate the Berry Plastics line of stretch and PVC films to drive EBITDA-Led the stretch film product consolidation in 2010 after the merger of Pliant Corporation and Berry Plastics. This product consolidation merged two product lines into one, balancing the needs of thousands of customer demands, the manufacturing needs of five different plants, marketing, and profitability. -Unique process and polymer chemistry background yields new products that are novel in both formulation and process. The industry leading Stratos hand film took an existing high performance hand film and engineered a way to fold the edges in-line. This process innovation controls cost by eliminating a conversion step and offers a differentiated feature of damage protection to the end user. -
Phase Polyethylene Process Research And Development EngineerUnion Carbide Corporation/Dow Chemical Company Jan 1998 - Mar 2005to Feb '05 Responsible for developing and leading scale-up of staged reactor high density film and pipe applications. This work has resulted in over 100 million pounds of new annual product sales. Received 10 issued patents for my key role in process development work. Experience troubleshooting commercial twin-screw extruders, including oxygen tailoring and other proprietary reaction extrusion research. Led a Six Sigma Green Belt Project to reduce defects associated with pilot plant purification and reliability. This project is saving an estimated $100,000 per year. Served as a lead engineer to reduce catalyst costs and improve reliability. This project saved $11 million over 3 years. I received the 2001 Technology Award for my key role. Served as the lead developmental engineer to define the technology for the metallocene catalyzed staged reactor process for high strength film applications.Developed and conducted pilot plant experiments to select the best catalyst and process conditions to combine optimum product performance with economic advantage.Developed a statistical based model using pilot plant data and Pavilion neural net software to control polymer characteristics with staged reactor process conditions.Provided on-site R&D support for the successful start-up of the LP-7 Polyethylene facility.
