Mike’s key delivery focus involves helping businesses develop strategic marketing clarity and action-oriented roadmaps to meet specific strategic marketing objectives. During implementation, he helps executives, and their teams, manage the creation and development of new ideas for business models, processes, products or services. During execution, he will lead teams from the front: in other words, he will participate in doing the project with them, not just preaching from afar how it should be done. This includes creativity, copywriting, brainstorming, visualization, team facilitation, research and leading promotional marketing resources to execute campaigns. Mike begins most strategic marketing engagements by helping clients visualize and improve customer portfolio management and competitive positioning (perceptual mapping). He excels in ongoing management and improvement of strategic marketing ROI. A strong researcher, Mike specializes in discovery of “core strategy” and “market position” by studying competitor and industry dynamics. In research, he is obsessed with a client’s strategic alignment with trends. During his previous 16.5 years with GENEDGE (Va. Manufacturing Extension) Mike managed or co-managed strategic growth projects with over 100 industrial, scientific or manufacturing firms, facilitating the creation of new growth ideas or projects. He maintains close relationships with many executives and owners at those companies. In 2010, he was an instrumental part of the team that helped launch an innovation grant program that generated nearly $750,000 in innovation investments across Virginia, and in 2011 he was part of a five-member MEP team that studied U.S. supply chain competitiveness and co-authored a key white paper explaining the competitive gaps. In 2020-23, Mike created and deployed his first, proprietary commercialization planning process which stewarded 60 companies through Virginia’s Strategic Retooling program. Mike is an exceptionally strong communicator and project manager. At any given time during his previous employment, Mike was managing 12-20 projects, plus several hundred communication channels -- both internal and external -- as well as creating contracts and acquiring project resources, all while delivering strategic consulting services directly.
