About Mike Lyons

I am the founder and director of a private school in Japan. My duties are extremely varied. I do everything, from curriculum design to hiring staff to filing tax returns. And of course I teach English. My second school, SOLE Japan, brings self organized learning into the Japanese context. I founded SOLE Japan as an alternative to Japan's overly conservative approach to education. It is the original SOLE school in Japan. I co-founded SOLE Online, a collaboration hub for SOLE teachers around the World.I am also lecturing at three universities in the Nagoya area. I am responsible for course planning, delivery, and evaluation. I bring innovative active learning techniques to my classes.
