Mike Marcom is currently an independent consultant for drilling and related oilfield applications. A graduate of Texas Tech University, Mike Marcom started his oil field career roughnecking in West Texas prior to joining Rowan Companies, Inc in their North Sea operations group. He served in Rowan’s Drilling Division in various capacities including Driller, Rig Superintendent and Rig Manager prior to moving into executive management with roles as Managing Director of Rowan’s European Operations as well as Vice President of Rowan International. His career with Rowan spanned well over 35 years with responsibilities throughout Rowan’s organization until his retirement as an Operations VP at the end of 2011. He has worked to advance the industry through his membership, committee participation or other involvement with the IADC, SPE, AADE, API and SNAME. While active at Rowan he served on the Executive Committee of the Gulf of Mexico Offshore Operator’s Committee (OOC); the Gulf of Mexico Area Maritime Security Committee for Homeland Security (GOMAMSC); the Executive Committee of the API Committee on Standardization of Equipment and Materials (CSOEM); and the API Drilling and Production Operating Standards Committee (DPOS). He has also represented the National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) on the federal Oil and Natural Gas Sector Coordinating Council (ONGSCC); the Homeland Security Information Network oil and gas workgroup and chaired the IADC Jackup Committee. He has extensive working knowledge of drilling rigs and drilling operations with good practical application skills in all areas of management including sales and marketing, safety and health, engineering, contract negotiation, human resources, and supply/purchasing.
