Mr. Mike Markowski, B.A. (hon.), M.A., is the Heritage Division Manager and Principal Archaeologist at Atlheritage. Having worked with large and mid-size environmental consulting firms, Mike gained a strong understanding of the heritage consulting sector and co-founded Atlheritage in 2014. Mike has over 16 years of heritage consulting experience across the Prairie Provinces and in Idaho, USA. Having successfully completed over 600 Archaeological Resource Investigation Permits and project managed over 700 Projects, Mike has gained a remarkable level of heritage assessment (including all levels of archaeological mitigation) and project management experience. Mike has completed heritage requirements (Heritage Resources Impact Assessments, Mitigations, Archaeological Monitoring Requirements, Post-Impact Heritage Resources Impact Assessments, Archaeological Impact Assessments, Cemetery Studies, Desktop Overviews) in all industry sectors throughout the Prairie provinces and has gained exceptional experience with dealing with complex archaeological requirements and archaeological site conflicts. Throughout Mike’s career, he has been diligent with engaging clients, stakeholders, groups, and committees with their heritage concerns. Through this process, Mike has gained valuable experience regarding business relations/communications, interview protocols (e.g., approach, traditions, and offerings), arranging community and private meetings and the ability to successfully document and record interviewee/stakeholder information and concerns. The results of Mike’s work have resulted in the recording of several new archaeological sites, a Provincial Heritage Site designation, avoidance of traditional sites and recognition and protection of traditionally used areas (e.g., ceremonial, hunting, trapping fishing, historic cabins) and contributions to archaeological research.
