As of 5/1/2012, SmartSynch is now Itron Cellular Solutions. Led the integration of former SmartSynch facilities with Itron’s global voice and data networks.

Engineering support for the network that supports SmartSynch's cellular electric meters. Maintained and coordinated multiple IPSEC VPN connections to customers and cellular carriers. Designed and implemented a major upgrade of SmartSynch’s production network and server infrastructure, replacing legacy equipment with VMWare vSphere, an IBM Storage Area Network, and Cisco layer 3 gigabit switches.

Design, configuration, troubleshooting, and support of enterprise data and VOIP networks for customers in the health care industry. Improved response time, enhanced troubleshooting, and saved money by implementing a network management system with open source software. Developed a process for in-house configuring, testing, and deploying Cisco UC520 systems that saved the company $25,000 over the cost of using a 3rd-party contractor.

Supervises 6 NOC Engineers in the operation and maintenance of a nationwide paging and mobile-to-mobile network. Currently consolidating legacy SkyTel and Velocita Wireless networks into a unified enterprise; migrating the NOC and associated data center from Jackson, MS to Clinton, MS; and aggressively cutting costs without sacrificing customer satisfaction.

Responsible for design, development, and third-level engineering support for a Frame-Relay enterprise network with over 2500 remote sites and 2 major data centers. Planned and implemented migration of the production Internet DMZ to a new ISP and new address space, saving the company $12,000/month. Wrote and maintained Perl and Expect scripts for router configuraton management. Found ways to connect legacy systems using the company's IP network and eliminate separate circuits for "stovepipe" applications. Improved network security by managing router access-lists and firewall (Checkpoint Firewall-1) rules; and by installing the SNORT Intrusion Detection System.

Responsible for second-level engineering support and advanced troubleshooting of the T3 and ATM backbone network that provides most of America Online's Internet connectivity. Configured Bay Networks BCN and Cisco 7500 series routers and solved routing problems involving BGP4, OSPF, various Virtual Private Network (VPN) devices, and peering with other ISP's. From Nov98 to May00, I was responsible for conducting all after-hour scheduled maintenance on the routers -- hardware replacements, software upgrades, and configuration changes which would be too intrusive to do during the daytime.

Enterprise networking and system integration. Post installation support in the form of on-site consultations, system enhancements, and product repairs. Responsibilities also included LAN/WAN system optimization, new product evaluations, and providing technical support and advanced troubleshooting assistance to Customer Technicians. Tested and evaluated Firewall-1 and TIS Gauntlet firewall software and platforms for Chrysler Corporation. Installed and integrated USR Total Control modem banks and Livingston Terminal servers for UAW National Training Center. Implemented ISDN Centrex dial-up WANs using Bay and Cisco Routers for Monroe Public Schools and Fanuc Robotics.

Installed, repaired, and troublehooted Bay Networks, Cisco, and 3Com concentrators, routers, and switches. Also tested and evaluated new wireless LAN devices from various vendors for corporate pre-sales evaluation. Completed major switched internetwork installations at Monsanto Trenton Plant and Lake Orion Community Schools.

Coordinated the installation of new Northern Telecom SL-1 PBX’s and NORSTAR digital key systems for EDS and GMAC locations throughout the U. S. Work involved determining customer requirements, programming and configuring the switch equipment and managing the wiring and installation subcontractors.

Duties included Tactical Signal Platoon Leader (manager of 30 people and $2 million of Radioteletype{RATT} and cable equipment); Company Executive Officer (second in command) of a 300 person strategic signal company with a network of 10 AT&T Dimension 200 switches, one AT&T 5ESS multifunction switch, and an AN/GSC 52 Satellite Earth Terminal -- providing voice and data service to 30,000 subscribers; and Personnel Officer of a 592-person strategic signal battalion.
