About Mike Mcfarlin

In my career, I have worked on ecological projects focusing on community, disease, marine, and conservation ecology in the United States and Europe. Through these jobs I have been fortunate to have worked with a variety of organisms and organizations. In my graduate research, I focused on the relationship between bacterial diversity in the host microbiome and the foraging ecology of the host - in this case wild gulls. In a collaboration with researchers from Kiel University, I studied how foraging in human environments impacted the microbiomes of two gull species.I am interested in the connections between micro and macroorganisms within ecosystems and hope to continue working in collaborative efforts to understand these interactions and preserve ecosystems.I am also very interested in using media to share ecological research with a wide audience. I have worked with Coriolis Films to produce a documentary on endangered seabird conservation on Kaua'i and am currently developing other projects.

Listed skills include Biology, Ecology, Research, Ecological Research, and 33 others.
