First 10 years was as a Sales Engineer in north of UK supporting both Direct and Distribution Accounts.Second 10 years was supporting the high service distributors who seeded the market . Final 4 years was supporting all EMEA distributors with training and marketing .

North West Of England

Arizona Technologies were the UK Rep for Microchip , our HQ was in Loughborough , we also sold Truly LCD displays and were discussing other lines when Microchip pulled the Rep deal . My role was to cover the north of England - working with distribution and selected OEM accounts.

North West Of England

Eiger was the northern outpost of the Polar Electronics empire and despite having a limited line-card we did remarkably well , my role was managing/growing selected NW accounts and once again I did pretty well . I moved to Eiger on the basis of the Microchip PIC line and it was such a door opener for me . There were so many talented people at Polar - it was such a blast to work there - such a shame that the inevitable happened and another distributor bought them .

When I joined Arrow it was known as RR Electronics or Radio Resistor , It was a volume Catalog distributor and we were encouraged to chase volume opportunities , the linecard was quite limited but I turned my territory round pretty quickly and was top salesperson within a couple of years .Arrow was heavily into acquisitions at the time and I chose to leave after the merger with Jermyn - it was just becoming too big and impersonal , Arrow got their value out of me - I was there nearly 6 years but I don't really think they ever rewarded me properly for the success I brought them .

Encouraged to join Abacus after Lock moved to Cambridge and changed its name to Newtek.Territory was the North West of UK - Abacus had limited range of franchises so we were all expected to buy / resell off other WW distributors - I think I became pretty good at this and I certainly learned an awful lot about components . After 3 years at Abacus I had a change of manager who I didn't really get on with - so I left to join RR or Radio Resistor - that was at the time a sister company to RS .

Started as Graduate Trainee , worked in various dept's getting a thorough grounding of how an electronics distributor works , stores , sales desk , marketing , tech support , asset and finally in a field based sales role . It's probably fair to say that everything started to come together and made sense after approx 12 months at Lock and I never really looked back. There were some very good people at Lock who were very helpful in training me and others .

Started off buying Capital and Consumables then they had me getting involved with Wings and Engines , a fascinating place to work if you are an engineering bod - which I was / am .
