In my role as COO, I work with the President and the rest of the management team to drive the organization's strategy for growth and profitability. Before stepping into this role, I spent the first few years of my career in claims and underwriting with insurance carriers. From there, I moved to the brokerage side where I got involved in insurance sales, sales management, and organizational leadership. I’m extremely proud to have served Bolton & Company for more than 18 years. It’s a unique organization whose success has been dependent upon fostering an environment where our team of professionals can grow, develop and thrive in their roles to best support our clients.As a leader, I believe in supporting people in finding what works best for them. I expect our team to actively listen, make thoughtful decisions that consider all of the available data, and support others – peers and clients alike – in making those decisions. True to my passion for empowering others, I started and have chaired the Bolton Foundation for the past 5 years. Its mission is to empower those who serve others by providing grants to local non-profit organizations that address community development, education, youth services, and multiculturalism within our local communities. Since the beginnings of the Foundation, we have collectively raised more than $700,000 through internal fundraising campaigns, including our signature “Throw Down” event, a cornhole bean bag toss tournament held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.At Bolton, we work with our partners and clients to provide the right strategy for growth, productivity, and peace of mind. As Vice-President at Calco Insurance Brokers, I worked with the President on the financial and operational performance of the Los Angeles Branch. I also interfaced regularly with the home office and four other California branches. This role marked my first time building forecast models and goals for an entire organization. In order to succeed, I had to manage a steep learning curve and communicate well with my peers. While meeting with my team, we identified that the focus of our goals needed to change. Instead of using overall corporate objectives to inform individual goals, we started working backwards – we set individual goals and forecasts for each employee and then benchmarked them against organizational goals. While our first-year forecast fell short of corporate objectives, it helped our team buy into the idea that the expected organizational results were still achievable with their commitment to stretching themselves a bit further. This essentially laid the groundwork for the way in which I collaborate with internal teams and clients today. I also played a significant role in successfully transitioning our sales team from direct writers to a brokerage. This involved tapping into prior relationships with other insurance carrier leaders to establish new industry partnerships. And while onboarding new partners was the right move for us, it brought forward the challenge of educating our employees about the industry segments our new carriers insured while assuring the carriers that our sales team could bring them new clients.
