    Amazon Nov 2015 - May 2022
    Seattle, Wa, Us
Amazon Go, Physical Stores: Designed, tested, documented, and introduced to production custom cameras for Amazon's "Just Walk Out" technology. Cameras were based on midrange microprocessors with DDR3 RAM and associated support peripherals. Camera interfaces were MIPI. Also designed, tested, and documented from concept to production networked shelf sensors for "Just Walk Out" technology. Sensor HW was based on microcontrollers and included analog sensors with analog front end for signal conditioning and 24-bit high performance ADCs. I was the lead HW engineer for a joint development with a Taiwan based vendor of a midrange microprocessor based multi-use CPU board, which included DDR4 RAM, Ethernet, USB, PCIe, and other interfaces available on a board-to-board connector for application specific PCBAs.

Supported cockpit voice recorder product line with minor updates to CPLD ABLE code for a Digital Flight Data Acquisition Unit. I was then the HW lead managing the joint design and development of a CPU board for a cell phone based aircraft engine data download device. The team doing the design was based in India. Its purpose was to automatically send aircraft engine performance data to the ground base station at the end of each flight using the cell phone network.

Lead hardware engineer for a new generation of flight management systems (FMSs) and then became the Hardware Manager for the FMS product line. As the lead HW engineer I was responsible for leading the HW development of the multi-PDBA unit that included up to 7 PCBAs. I was also responsible for the detailed design of the CPU board for the FMSs. Designs included Z8000 based computer boards and Freescale PowerPC based designs. The PowerPC based design also included programmable logic HDL design. Other experience includes Arinc 429, Arinc compliant discrete I/O, among many others. Heavily involved in qualification testing of many products qualified to RTCA DO-160.
  • Boeing
    Hardware Design Engineer
    Boeing Jul 1985 - Oct 1993
    Arlington, Va, Us
Digital hardware design of the Connectorless Passenger Entertainment and Service System (CPESS) for the 7J7, which was canceled, CPESS development then led to the development of the Cabin Management System for the 777. The 777 CMS included 13 unique Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) and over 200 LRUs as a complete system. I was the lead hardware engineer for the Seat Electronics Unit (SEU), which included a custom designed controller board which I designed and a custom design audio/video board designed by Sony. I was responsible for integrating the Sony PCBA into the SEU and coordinate with the mechanical engineer for enclosure and thermal management. The 777 cabin management system became the first passenger seatback video system. I then did a computer board design for the 777 Warning Electronics Unit. Also developed software using Intel 8051 assembly language for an IFF unit.
