Inital role on desk as assistant, updating trade spreadsheets, internal fund systems, reconciling CSA reports and resolving trade discrepencies. Daily contact with brokers, traders and internal departments giving swift understanding of market dynamics. Initial dealing role covered dealing of Unit Trusts via phone and fax for Merlin Fund of Funds team to strict deadlines and sizeable transactions. Equity dealing encompassed Jupiter's Private Client Department, running c.£1bn; UK Fund Management programme trade execution, including the creation, analysis and execution of portfolio rebalancing, infows and outflows; UK Telecom sector equity trading for all UK Fund Management. From September 2010, to conincide with the launch of the Global Convertible and Strategic Total Return Funds, I moved to the newly created centralised Fixed Income Dealing Desk in order to trade High Yield, IG, Fins, Rates, Convertible Bonds, Government Bond Futures and FX. In a rapidly growing part of the business we had to adapt to ensure all MiFiD requirements were met as convertible investing was a new area for Jupiter. Learnt trading technique and etiquette for all markets and asset classes including trading in various currencies and on a global basis. Currently responsible for timely and accurate dealing of non-equity asset classes adhering to best-execution requirements, ensuring Fund Managers kept up to date with market activity and maintaining and developing external and internal relationships. An environment of increasing regulation and imminent changes to market structure have led to participation in various Buyside forums and steering groups; encouraging debate and change within the Buyside community and the wider market. Broadening my knowledge base by liaising with experienced peers as well as enhancing Jupiter's presence in the Fixed Income space has become a key component of an ever-changing skill set.

Responsible for developing and enhancing the Fixed Income Dealing Desk at Jupiter (three traders, cumulative 30+ years market experience) to meet the regulatory and liquidity challenges we face in an ever-changing trading landscape. Efficient utilization of trading platforms and protocols, that complement our style of trading, help the team to deliver Alpha to our Fund Managers in an increasingly varied set of asset classes, now including Global Emerging Markets and derivatives. Key to this is a strong team dynamic; liaising proactively with internal departments such as Compliance and Risk has never been more important, as well as maintaining and developing strong relationships with a diverse range of external counterparties, giving confidence in best-execution throughout the life-cycle of a trade and developing transaction cost analysis thereafter. Participation at industry forums and roundtable discussions, including The I.A. and ICMA, regularly engaging with peers, ensure the desk and the wider company are well-informed and thus positioned for regulatory change.

Responsible for the regular rebalancing of client portfolios, linked to a risk-rated model. Point of contact for up to 700 clients of varying backgrounds with between £50k-£1m+ to invest. Servicing client needs included portfolio-analysis, performance explanation and market narrative. Client-facing events, seminars and home visits provided a personal service and ensured a firm development of personable and professional skills.
