Responsible for CNN Newsgathering security functions and all high risk activities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, to maximise CNN output whilst minimising risk. This region constitutes the majority of CNN High Risk deployments and this requires navigating very real risks on a daily basis.Planning & ops managing all EMEA high risk deployments, often in the field. Wider responsibilities include overseas crisis management/ incident response, and international bureau security. Manage multiple vendors, kit and equipment, hostile environment training, comms and intelligence.Led CNN’s security approach on the ground during the invasion of Ukraine, including 7 months deployed newsgathering with CNN’s Chief International Correspondent, lead US anchors, and other CNN international correspondents. Simultaneously directing our countrywide security operations, with multiple news teams conducting high risk and award winning conflict coverage daily. 3 x Emmy and Du Pont award recipient.Ran the security aspect of CNN’s Afghanistan evacuation coverage, staff extraction and wider facilitation through network, (latter as described in the book ‘Escape from Kabul.’) Deployed across EMEA in support of high profile CNN Newsgathering teams to several other conflict zones, including Israel, Sudan twice, Syria and Tigray, Ethiopia.
