Leading the Blockchain Protocols team

Led the Bitcoin Wallets team responsible for maintaining and extending the product line securing over $16B in assets under custody.

Led FPGA design from requirements to preliminary design review for a radiation-tolerant solid-state memory board (SSD). Built top-level design including DDR4 memory controller, NAND Flash Controller, and PCI Express interface using Verilog HDL and Libero design suite.

Led several engineering teams including a blockchain infrastructure team and a full stack web development team. Spent ½ time on people management and ½ time on technical work. My teams completed the following projects, among others:* Cryptocurrency Wallet Backend - Built and maintained blockchain indexers to track user balances, detect receive events and store transaction history for 100’s of cryptoassets including Bitcoin, Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens.* ERC-20 Token Rewards Program - Built a system to reward users with FOX tokens for actions taken in the app such as referrals, signups, and trades. Tracked balances on an internal ledger and facilitated withdrawals to the user’s cryptocurrency wallet. Added limits and alerts to track abuse and fraud.* Node Infrastructure - Maintained and extended node infrastructure for 10 blockchains including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cosmos, Thorchain and others. Achieved high reliability using containerized and scalable redundant nodes, blockchain data snapshots, and health and status tracking.

Built and maintained blockchain indexers to track user balances and transaction history on the Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains. This was initially used in the KeepKey product and would later support the mobile and web software wallets at ShapeShift, and be extended to other blockchains (see above).

Built and deployed block explorer APIs used by the KeepKey hardware wallet. Built a high-reliability, high-quality service infrastructure using AWS components including CloudFormation, Lambda functions, Elastic Container Services, and Elastic Load Balancers.

Led a 10-person team through the design, implementation, and delivery of a multi-million dollar avionics package for the NASA / Lockheed Martin Orion spacecraft. Our team delivered engineering units, flight units, electrical and structural analysis, test software, and test equipment.Led system integration of hardware, software, mechanical, and power subsystems. Formal testing - Shock, Vibration, Thermal, Vacuum Chamber, and EMI. Worked closely with customers and program management to deliver high-quality products on schedule.Re-entry video captured by our system:

Worked on application of FPGA circuits to various satellite programs, including functional operations and radiation mitigation.
