Later in career I'm looking at turning my collection of historical espionage artefacts into the first such museum in the Southern Hemisphere and Asia.I've taken this idea to Western Sydney University's "Launchpad" startup accelerator and been accepted into the program. I'll be working on a feasibility plan for a museum, and looking for corporate and government sponsors to help stand up an MVP or proof of concept exhibition.Spy museums are both entertaining and educational, providing an impactful way to help explain the evolution of espionage into cyber, and the complex and evolving modern threat landscape. Cryptography in particular fuses maths, languages, engineering, process and major world events - students LOVE the Spy Museum! In the meantime, I do "show and tell" talks at cyber conferences. As front line defenders, cyber people immediately "get" what this collection is about. Yes, there's great gadgets, but the real value is a better appreciation for the origins of ccomputing and cyber. Perhaps even more importantly - the background of our opponents.==Conference Talks and Displays since 2022:2024Nov - CyberCon Melbourne – The Enigma machine – live demo’d and explainedNov - ISACA Canberra – Nowhere to hide - The nature and impact of pervasive untrustSep - B-Sides Canberra – The Enigma machine – live demo’d and explainedAug - Security2Cure Sydney – The Enigma machine – live demo’d and explainedJul - Maritime Museum Sydney – Battle of the Atlantic and Enigma (with Kez Kasanic)May – AISA AdelaideSec – The OTS Quartermaster – developing cold war espionage kitApr – AISA BRISSEC – Femme Fatale – women in espionage and technology (with Paula Sillars)Mar - CyberCon Canberra – Old Dog, New Tricks (with Paul Nevin)Feb – ASIS International Canberra – Evolution of espionage technology2023Oct – CyberCon Melbourne – The analog black hats of cold war BerlinOct – CyberCon Melbourne – A riddle wrapped in a mystery, inside an EnigmaSep – AWSN Explorers Meeting – Evolution of espionage techJul – AISA Brisbane Branch Meeting – Evolution of cryptographic systemsMay – Auscert – From analog to digital espionage (with Cheryl Wong)Mar – CyberCon Canberra – A riddle wrapped in a mystery, inside an Enigma (with Harriet Farlow)2022Nov – B-Sides Sydney – The analog black hats of Cold War BerlinSep – AISA Canberra – Old dog, new tricks (with Shanna Daly)Sep – B-Sides Melbourne – Old dog, new tricks (with Shanna Daly)Apr – Comfycon – The birth of the modern surveillance state

Founder, Researcher, Acquistions, Speaker / PresenterAustralian Spy Museum May 2024 - PresentSydney, New South Wales, AustraliaAfter decades in IT and cyber security I’m working to turn my personal spycraft collection into a new museum. The aim is to present and explore the history of espionage and the origins of modern threats like cyber attacks, disinformation and authoritarianism. The collection has been assembled with the help of overseas researchers, collectors and brokers who provided valued introductions to source stunning original artefacts. It took years and a huge personal investment to build - but the resulting collection now comprises a unique educational resource. -
